The diet for Candida involves 3 stages that will assist you in two ways;
- 1) To help eliminate the fungus.
- 2) The foods to which you are sensitive to can be identified and aid the healing of your system to prevent more infections occurring.
Stage one of the diet for Candida
Step one is the most important because this is where we stop feeding the Candida and take out all foods that may be placing stress on our immune system.
This essentially means we are taking away the foods with- sugar, yeast, gluten, Carbos (simple or otherwise), wheat, grains, mold and dairy- in them. Fermented foods are also not advised - this includes vinegars and soy sauce.
A very general rule here is if you have any doubt about whether you are allowed a food then it is best not to include it.
It may seem like there is not much left, but there are a few essential foods that you can eat in stage one of a Diet for Candida.
- Most green vegetables are OK
- Red and yellow peppers are also fine.
- Courgettes, cucumbers, squash
- Lean meat, chicken and fish.
- Omega oils - Essential fatty acids are essential
You will need to be on this stage of the diet for at least two weeks. For severe infections four weeks is the recommended minimum.

Stage two of the Diet for Candida
Now that our system has had a chance to heal, it is time to slowly reintroduce some basic foods back into our diet. The most important part here is to notice what your body does as these foods are eaten. If there is any reaction at all, from a slight quickening of your heart rate to a complete return of your symptoms then remove the food again for another two weeks.
Stage three of the Diet for Candida
This is where you can relax and enjoy your food again without fear. Although by this stage many of the changes that you will have made through the diet for Candida will be permanent, it is particularly satisfying to know that your family pizza night can go back on the menu!
How long should we be on the diet for Candida?
At least 6 weeks for mild cases, 6 months for moderate case and I have heard of people being on a diet for Candida for up to 2 years for advanced or systemic cases.
Truth be told, most people find that they are more than comfortable to include parts of the diet for Candida in their staple diet permanently.
Will I be completely cured by just doing the diet for Candida?
The diet for Candida will certainly go a long way to eliminating the fungus and by identifying your trigger foods you will help prevent a further infection and begin to feel fantastic. But to regain full health and kill the Candida completely we do need to follow a regime of supplements that include anti-fungals, nutrients to aid healing and kidney and liver cleanses to help flush out the toxins left behind by the Candida.
Do you want to know which supplements are the best for killing Candida? How the times that we take them can affect their effectiveness?
